“My sweet R100RT 1984 BMW airhead is for sale at a really sweet price of $3000.
I’m the second owner and have the complete maintenance records and original owners manual. The bike has been garage kept, with 67K miles on the clock this airhead is just broken-in. BMW hardened the cylinders on these bikes.
I have had a couple of these in the past and checked them at 100K+ miles and simply found the piston rings just at the maximum end gap (replacement time) . I have replaced the rings with standard rings and:wa-la, the ring end gap remains in spec. i.e. the only things that seem to wear are the piston rings. It is like working on 1/2 of a VW bug motor. Simple = Simple. No computers no injectors or mapping, just the largest Bing Carbs ever put on an airhead (40mm).
The paint is original and in good condition with the original pin stripping.
It has a Russell Day-Long saddle and Reynolds passenger backrest and rear rack. There is also a Reynolds ride-off center stand which makes putting the bike on the stand very easy. Reynolds of Salt Lake City, Utah has been out of business for years and these Reynolds after market parts are pursued by ebay addicts. It also has the Parabellum windscreen. It also sports a 400watt, $500 aftermarket charging system. It has new pushrod tube seals and head gaskets. There are no oil leaks.
Presently the fairing lowers are removed but they are included in the sale.
Also included are the stock BMW systems, removable, side hard cases and rack.
I am located in California on US 1, 1/2 way between SF and LA.
Give me a shout anytime. 805-995-1393 or firstname.lastname@example.org.”
