This 1989 Honda XRV650 Africa Twin RD03 is powered by a liquid-cooled 647cc V-twin with a 5-speed transmission and is said to remain largely stock aside from the addition of a Marving exhaust and cylindrical tool holder. Recent work included fitment of a new chain and sprockets in June 2018 as well as fresh spark plugs and an oil change in December. This Africa Twin was recently acquired by the selling dealer in Rammelsbach, Germany and shows 78k kilometers (~48k miles). It is offered with recent records and German registration. Produced to celebrate Honda’s period victories in the Paris-Dakar Rally, the RD03 was the first of many Africa Twin models offered from 1988 onward. This example is finished in red, white and blue livery and features a 6.4-gallon fuel tank, crash guards, and factory bag mounts. Several scratches can be seen on the tank and bodywork, and the headlight grille is missing. The 43mm Showa fork offered 9″ of travel from the factory and is shielded along with the front disc brake. The rear swingarm features a Pro-Link mono shock with 8.25″ of travel and a single-piston disc brake. Gold-rimmed wire-spoke wheels are fitted with Heidenau Enduro tires, and aftermarket accessories include a cylindrical tool holder. Instrumentation consists of a 200 km/h speedometer, 9k rpm tachometer, water temperature gauge, and 6-digit odometer showing 78k km (~48k miles). The liquid-cooled 647cc V-twin features three valves per cylinder and produced 57 horsepower in stock form. This example has been fitted with an aftermarket Marving exhaust. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel through a 5-speed transmission and chain drive. The chain and sprockets were replaced in June 2018, and the spark plugs, oil, and filter were changed in December. Receipts for the recent work are shown in the gallery below.
