This 1988 Honda XRV650 Africa Twin RD03 is a Swiss-market example from the first year of production. The bike is powered by a liquid-cooled 647cc V-twin paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and comes equipped with engine protection bars as well as a Givi top case and panniers. A replacement drive chain and sprockets have been installed within the past 500 miles, and more recent service included new spark plugs and an oil change. This Africa Twin is offered by the selling dealer in Rammelsbach, Germany with Swiss registration. The Africa Twin’s design was influenced by the Dakar-winning NXR750 and featured a low front fender, hand guards, a lower engine shield, and a 6.34-gallon fuel tank. As a Swiss-market bike, this example comes equipped with a single rectangular headlamp instead of dual round beams. An aftermarket accessory light has been added up front. Engine protection bars and a matching pannier rack are fitted along with a hard Givi top case and panniers. The suspension was designed to feature nearly 9” of travel up front and 8” in the rear. Braking is from front and rear discs, and a protective front brake cover came standard from the factory. Instrumentation consists of a 200 km/h speedometer, 9k rpm tachometer, water temperature gauge, and a 5-digit odometer which is said to have rolled over once. Actual mileage is reportedly 123k kilometers (~77k miles). The 647cc V-twin is tucked behind a rock guard and the low fuel tank. The liquid-cooled powerplant features three valves per cylinder, with induction through a pair of CV carburetors. Recent service included an oil and filter change and a new pair of spark plugs. The chain and sprockets have reportedly been replaced within the past 500 miles.
