This 1983 BMW R80RT shows just under 29k miles and was purchased by the selling dealer 2 months ago. The bike is powered by a 797cc opposed twin with a 5-speed transmission, and a tune up was recently performed consisting of a carburetor rebuild, new spark plugs, and an oil change. A new front tire was also fitted, and service records show the steering head bearings and battery have been replaced within the last two years. This R80RT is offered at no reserve by the selling dealer with the owner’s manual, factory tool kit, and a clean Wisconsin title.
Finished in Pacific Blue, the RT was the sport touring version of the R80/7 that featured a full fairing and hard side cases. This example has been fitted with a pair of Sito mufflers and an aftermarket tail rack. The seller notes various paint chips in the finish and discoloration of the exhaust headers. BMW “snowflake” alloy wheels are fitted, and the front tire was recently replaced. Service records indicate the local BMW dealer replaced the steering head bearings and installed a new battery two years ago.
An aftermarket tail rack with backrest is fitted, and the seller reports that both BMW system cases have cracks on the lids.
Inside the fairing, a 140-mph speedometer and 9k-rpm tachometer are supplemented by a volt gauge and electric clock. The factory supplied folding key is present and paint loss can be seen on the rims of the gauges. Just under 29k miles are shown on the odometer.
The air-cooled 797cc opposed twin was rated at 50 horsepower when new and features dual Bing carburetors. Prior to offering the bike for sale, the selling dealer performed a tune up consisting of new spark plugs, a carburetor rebuild with new seals and O-rings, and an oil change. The owner’s manual and factory toolkit will be included. A brief walk around video can be seen below.
