This 2006 Ducati Paul Smart 1000LE is finished in silver with a green frame and is one of approximately 2,000 built to commemorate racer Paul Smart’s win at Imola in 1972. The Paul Smart model was part of Ducati’s SportClassic series, and is powered by a 992cc 90-degree twin with desmodromic valve drive and two-valves per cylinder. The bike was first sold by Big Twin Cycles in Boise, Idaho, and the seller acquired it from the original owner in 2016. A Termignoni exhaust is equipped, and maintenance under current ownership has included new drive belts, fuel lines, fuel pump seals, and a recent oil and filter change. This Ducati is offered with a replacement fuel tank, factory keys, and a clean Idaho title in the seller’s name.
Like Paul Smart’s 1972 Imola 200km bike, the Paul Smart 1000LE is finished in silver with a blue-green steel trellis frame. The bike is equipped with a front bikini faring, a solo seat with faring, and an exposed engine and transmission. The seller notes that the factory fuel tank has swollen, though it remains within the bounds of the tank pucks as shown in the gallery. A replacement fuel tank is included.
The front forks and single rear coilover assembly are adjustable units from Öhlins. The spoked wheels are equipped with aluminum hoops, and braking is handled by twin front and a single rear Brembo disc brake. Older Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tires are fitted.
The rear clamshell has been signed by Paul Smart and shows his race number for the 1972 Imola event. The seller had the clamshell clear-coated to protect the signature. Intact warning labels and other markings are shown in the gallery below.
The bike is equipped with clip-on handlebars, and the controls and fluid reservoirs are shown in the gallery. Analog instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer and an 11k-rpm tachometer, with a small metal panel housing the warning lights mounted between the gauges. Approximately 1,660 miles are shown on the digital odometer.
The air-cooled 992cc 90-degree twin with desmodromic valve actuation and two valves per cylinder. The bike was factory rated at 92 horsepower and 67 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheel via a 6-speed transmission with chain drive. The bike is equipped with a Termignoni exhaust system and fuel map installed by Big Twin Cycle. Under current ownership the bike has received new timing belts, and the fuel lines and fuel pump seals were recently replaced.
Three factory keys and the key code card are pictured above, and a walk-around video is viewable below.
